The SAT, or Scholastic Aptitude Test, is a standardized test used in the college admissions process in the United States. The exam is designed to evaluate a student's readiness for college level coursework, and is made up of two main sections: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing. The Math section consists of both calculator and non-calculator sections, and covers topics ranging from algebra to trigonometry. The Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section includes passages from literature and social science, as well as grammar and vocabulary questions. The test also includes an optional essay section. The SAT is widely used by universities as a factor in admissions decisions, and high scores can improve a student's chances of being accepted to their desired school. Many students choose to take the SAT multiple times, as scores are typically sent to colleges on a student's request.
